Smoke Damage Restoration
Soot, Odor & HVAC Decontamination
Smoke travels every duct, cavity, and crack in a structure within minutes of a fire. S.W.A.T. Restoration deploys IICRC S700-trained crews to Aledo, Fort Worth, Weatherford, Willow Park, and Benbrook with the chemistry and equipment to stop residue from bonding permanently — the faster the response, the less that gets left behind.

When You Need This
The longer you wait,
the worse it gets.
Not all smoke residue is the same. Wet soot from a kitchen grease fire is oily and smears on contact — standard wiping spreads it deeper into porous surfaces. Dry soot from paper and wood fires is powdery but acidic; it pits chrome, etches glass, and corrodes copper wiring within 72 hours of exposure. Protein soot from cooking fires leaves a nearly invisible film with an aggressive odor that surface cleaning won't touch. S.W.A.T. Restoration identifies the residue type on arrival and selects the matching chemistry — alkaline degreasers, dry-cleaning sponges, or enzymatic treatments — before a single wipe touches the structure. IICRC S700 protocols drive every step.
Warning Signs
- Grey or black soot streaking on walls, ceilings, and trim following a structure fire
- Greasy, smeared film on kitchen surfaces after a cooking or grease fire
- Smoky odor returning days after a fire was extinguished
- Discoloration or film on HVAC grilles, registers, and supply vents
- Soot visible inside return-air ducts or on air handler components
- Smoke residue on clothing, upholstered furniture, and drapery
- Acidic etching on chrome fixtures, glass surfaces, or copper hardware
- Musty, persistent protein odor with no visible residue present
Mission Operations
How we execute
from call to close.
- 01.
Residue Typing
Identify the Smoke. Select the Chemistry.
S.W.A.T. Restoration crews assess residue type on arrival — wet soot, dry soot, or protein residue — before any cleaning begins. The wrong chemistry on the wrong residue type smears or sets the damage. Affected zones are documented with photos and moisture/pH readings per IICRC S700 protocols. HVAC access points are inspected to determine whether the system circulated smoke through the structure.
- 02.
Chem Sponging
Dry Soot First. Wet Chemistry Second.
Dry residues are lifted with dry-cleaning sponges before any liquid chemistry contacts the surface — wetting dry soot first drives it deeper into drywall texture and porous materials. Wet and protein residues are treated with matched alkaline degreasers or enzymatic agents. Hard surfaces, framing, and contents are worked in sequence, top to bottom, to prevent recontamination of cleaned areas.
- 03.
Thermal Fogging
Penetrate What Surface Cleaning Can't Reach.
Thermal foggers vaporize deodorizing agents into the same microscopic particle size as smoke — allowing the treatment to penetrate wall cavities, ceiling assemblies, subfloor voids, and HVAC ductwork where soot odor compounds have bonded to surfaces. This step runs after surface cleaning so the fogger isn't working against active residue. Treatment duration is calibrated to structure size — typically 2 to 4 hours of contact time.
- 04.
HVAC Decontamination
If the HVAC Ran During the Fire, the System Is Contaminated.
Any forced-air system operating during or after a fire circulates smoke and soot particles through every supply and return run in the house. S.W.A.T. Restoration inspects and decontaminates air handler components, filter housing, and accessible ductwork. ULV foggers treat duct interiors where brush or wipe methods cannot reach. Clearance is confirmed before the system is returned to service.
